Issue 05/2013

interlift 2013 has broken all records so far – number of exhibitors, area leased, share of international participants and this is not even all of the records. Our heartiest congratulations go to the AFAG and the VFA-Interlift on this achievement – the positive development of the leading world fair is attributable not least to the outstanding organisation and expert trade sponsor.

Standards and directives in a state of flux

Due to the constantly changing situation in the field of regulations for lifts, the industry needs options to exchange this information. An especially suitable institution for this purpose is the VFA Academy.

The Lift Market in Germany

The past three years in Europe were dominated by the Euro crisis and the various bailout packages to overcome the governmental debt crisis in many countries of the eurozone. The gross domestic product in the EU in 2012 has declined by 0.4%, in the eurozone actually by 0.6%. In 2012, even an economically stable country like Germany could only achieve a growth rate of 0.7%, after 3.3% in the year 2011 (Source: Eurostat).

Kronenberg door interlocks – a benchmark for safety

The doors of lift installations are highly stressed safety devices. It is important that one can rely on their function without any compromises. Any failure would have dire consequences.

interlift 2013: The world’s leading trade fair continues to grow

For the interlift only one direction counts: Upwards. Actually that seems logical for a trade fair for elevator technology, which is moreover theleading one worldwide.

A piece of history

Paternoster lift in the Hansa high-rise in Cologne
The Hansa high-rise was erected between 1924 and 1925 and for a short period it was one of the highest buildings in Europe with 17 floors and a height of 65 m. A total of 26 individual cabins attached to two chains (two people per cabin) circulate in constant motion in the paternoster lift on the inside.

Glass external lift for vocational school centre in Munich

Planning of a lift project seldom occurs completely in EDP and 3D. Butz & Neumair, lift construction specialist, took on the visual implementation for the ‘Berufliche Schulzentrum München' and first designed a B&N exclusive special lift completely in EDP and three dimensionally in the protected monument building and also implemented the project.

Growth market Russia: only with TR certificates of customs union

Today Russia is the fourth largest export market worldwide for the German plant and machinery sector. Foreign companies have to observe a series of special factors and national certifications in order to obtain market access. The transition from GOST R and TR to TR certificates of the customs union must be observed in this connection. TÜV Hessen and TÜV SÜD support companies in all certification steps.

Presence in China

Kleemann completed its participation in „China International Elevator Exhibition“ held in Shanghai with great success. The exhibition attracted many visitors from all over the world with the majority coming from the rapidly growing local market, but also from the broader and equally dynamic Asian market.

LM Liftmaterial open for business in Italy

LM Liftmaterial GmbH, the complete elevator division of the Sematic Group based near Munich (Germany), is pleased to announce the opening of its new Italian subsidiary, LM Liftmaterial Italia srl (Suisio, Bergamo).

Shorter delivery times thanks to centralisation and optimisation of processes

After a two-year planning and building phase, the Schmersal Group in Wuppertal has put its European central warehouse into operation. A narrow aisle pallet warehouse with 1800 pallet places and an automatic miniload warehouse with 26000 places have been erected on an area of 3600 m². Generous picking and packaging zones and a conveyor connection to the central production areas were realised too.

Lift operator obligation

The safety of lifts is not as good as it could be: according to defect statistics, a significant number of lifts were not tested at all in 2012 in Germany, despite binding regulations. Two-thirds of the lifts inspected had defects. The operators are responsible for this, experts from the technical standards organisation DEKRA point out.

ZF Friedrichshafen AG has developed an innovative transmission for escalators, which relies on sustainability and permits energy recovery. This ZF escalator transmission is designed as a two-stage planetary transmission.

Lift fantasies – fantastic lifts

The technical investment product lift is above all one thing – one of the most used transport means for people. In the midst of interlift 2013, the technology-dominated component show of the lift industry, the photo exhibition “LIFT ART / lift fantasies – fantastic lifts” shows the encounter between people and lift technology from a completely different point of view.

Block gets star for motion control for best quality from Siemens

Siemens AG has selected Block Transformatoren-Elektronik GmbH as one of the best suppliers for the business area motion control. In the end a total of 25 companies were able to qualify on the basis of the annual supplier evaluation.

In time for interlift 2013: LIFTLex and fair newspaper

The Verlagsanstalt Handwerk will be offering the maximum amount of information for interlift 2013: apart from this comprehensive issue 5/13 of LIFTjournal, the popular industry lexicon LIFTLex will be published as well as the fair newspaper for interlift.

Compact and quiet for lifts

On the occasion of interlift 2013 Gefran will for the first time be presenting its “lift converter” ADL300 for the operation of synchronous and asynchronous motors without circuit breaker.

For the third time in a row in the top 100

For the third year in a row Kone features among the top 100 most innovative companies in the world in the ranking of the US business magazine Forbes. Kone has risen to 37th place and improved compared to the previous year by five places. Kone was in 12th place among the European companies listed.

Growing numbers of building owners opting for slim lift door

A new generation of lift doors with a smaller door package width is gaining ground on the market. The advantages are convincing: more space in the car and more living space that can be sold or leased. At interlift 2013 Riedl Aufzüge will present its completely overhauled slender telescopic sliding door, now in six-leaf design and as glass door.

Insensitive to black smoke

ELGO Electronic provides a magneticbased shaft information and control system, which by virtue of its simple assembly and great savings possibilities is equally suitable for serial use in new installations as well as for the modernisation of existing lifts.

Safe smoke extraction – controlled ventilation

The German federal state building ordinances prescribe smoke extraction openings that are 2.5% the size of the shaft cross-section, but at least 0.1 m² (Brandenburg 5%, at least 0.2 m²). Consequently, permanent openings of the corresponding size are usually produced in the shaft head. This leads to considerable heat loss and high heating costs.

Accurate, fast, mobile

New app simplifies spare part procurement
Hauer GmbH, based in Karlsruhe, will be unveiling its newly developed “Elevatorshop app” right on time for the Augsburg lift industry meeting. On devices with an Apple or Android operating system the unique app will become an indispensable spare parts assistant for everyone who deals with the maintenance and care of lifts.

Lift shaft smoke extraction: The LSC (r)evolution

Since the launch of the LSC lift smoke control systems from D+H Mechatronic AG, the market for these energy-saving lift shaft smoke extraction and ventilation systems has virtually exploded. This is both due to the emergence of the European energy directives (e.g. the Energy Conservation Ordinance [EnEV] in Germany) and the constant expansion of systems engineering. D+H is introducing the most recent result of this LSC (r)evolution at interlift

Swiss-made electronics – who invented them?

Leitronic AG, the small innovative Swiss company, continually optimises its range of tried-and-tested, high quality lift emergency call devices according to customer needs.

Expansion of the product line with two new door drives

Since the beginning of 2013 the new comfort lift door drive ATD400V has powered the Meiller rollup door Genius Plus. From autumn 2013 the AT40M door drive will be able to move a door leaf mass of up to 600 kg.

Drive solutions from one source

Drive and control technology manufacturer Yaskawa will be presenting itself at interlift 2013 as a provider of comprehensive solutions for lift manufacturers, system integrators and control engineers.

Clever modernisation of hydraulic lifts according to TRBS 1121

Almost none of the 200,000 hydraulic lifts operated in Germany provide adequate protection against unintended car movement when the doors are open. This is because such a safety system was not required until 2012. A single downwards valve was enough.

A lift that always fits

With the Schindler 5500 a lift has arrived on the market that can be tailor-made to fit differing requirements.

Reliable lift light grids despite toughest conditions

Do you know the protection type of your light grid? The standard housing type of light grids in the lift sector is IP54. However, to protect the electronics in the interior of the strips in the face of strong external influences, more is needed.

Emergency call control centre “external” or “internal” – Obligations of lift operators

To comply with the standard EN 81-28 operation of a remote emergency call system is only possible in combination with a control centre. Connection to a control centre also offers operators of lifts other advantages apart from pure monitoring and receipt of calls from emergency call systems.

New version of Liftdesigner software

DigiPara Liftdesigner 2014 greatly boosts the productivity of lift companies in producing 2D lift drawings and 3D models.
