Here we go again!

New year, new opportunities – a rather optimistic statement. 2014 will be a year with many changes. Let’s see what it brings.

BK-Factory – a joint venture that packs a punch

D+H Mechatronic AG and AirFlowControl SA, which have decisively shaped the current technical and normative state of lift shaft ventilation and smoke extraction systems, have bundled their services and strengths in an EU-wide joint company structure since the end of 2013, the BKFactory GmbH (Blue Kit Factory).

Transparency in lift construction

The Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon in the Dresdner Zwinger complex
The Mathematisch-Physikalischer Salon was founded in 1728 by August the Strong and to this day is one of the most important museums of historic scientific instruments worldwide. The oldest museum in the Dresdner Zwinger complex now has a fascinating new exhibition of how one used to measure the world in centuries past.

New for operators: efficient installation management

Kone makes it possible for lift and escalator operators to have up-todate daily access to their complete installation data. Since the beginning of the year operators can view their contractual, lift, invoice and malfunction data online.

Avire: light curtains distributor in Russia

Leading provider of lift safety and communication systems Avire has chosen Lift Fit as its distributor in Russia. Lift Fit supplies the Russian market with components and spare parts for lifts and escalators from manufacturers including Otis, Schindler, Kone and Thyssenkrupp.

Simply brilliant

The new Elevatorshop app has revolutionised the spare parts business
The new “Elevatorshop app” of hauer GmbH from Karlsruhe created a minor sensation at the trade fair interlift 2013 in Augsburg. The programme provides fast access to the dimensions and photos of over 11,000 lift spare parts from 25 manufacturers and runs on almost all common commercial smartphones and tablets.

Vestner lift gets “Class A” certificate for maximum energy efficiency

The certification authority with European-wide responsibility “Liftinstituut” has awarded the “Vestner Advance 4” lift model of Vestner Aufzüge GmbH the “Class A Energy Performance Certificate.” This is the highest energy efficiency class in Europe. Liftinstituut, based in Amsterdam, is the authority responsible for certifying lifts on the basis of European legislation.

Unabated building boom

There will soon be another new addition to the Moscow skyline and the capital’s new international business center, Moscow City: the IQquarter. For the new multifunctional complex ThyssenKrupp Elevator has received an order for the delivery, installation and commissioning of 22 TWIN elevators with a total of 44 cabs, 23 conventional elevators, and 16 escalators.

BTR at interlift 2013

High performance expertise centre for ventilation and smoke extraction
In October 2013 BTR Brandschutz-Technik und Rauchabzug GmbH from Hamburg demonstrated to an international trade audience how it has created significant improvements for fast, targeted smoke extraction with intelligent ventilation and smoke and heat extraction devices at the trade fair interlift in Augsburg.

Kick-off event before the Heilbronn Lift Days

“Continue with the beep – we do not leave you alone.”
Bosch Communication Center will also continue the event series “with the beep” for the third year in succession in 2014. The lift experts of Bosch, SafeLine and Elfin will use the occasion of the Heilbronn Lift Days to provide information on the latest developments relating to the subject of lift emergency call on Monday, 10 March 2014.

The lift in the building

Heilbronn Lift Days 2014
The Heilbronn Technical Academy will stage the 31st Heilbronn Lift Days on 11 and 12 March 2014 in the great hall of the Harmonie Concert and Congress Centre. As in 2013 Klaus Dietel will be in charge of the concept and management.

interlift 2015

Even though the interlift 2013 has once again surpassed all the previous benchmarks, this was not really a surprise to anybody. More like “business as usual” – that’s just what you expect from the interlift. Since its première in 1991 the specialised trade fair for elevator technology has long since developed into the leading trade fair for this sector.

Open House 2013 – a great success

When SafeLine Sweden took part in the interlift trade fair in October 2013, a record number of visitors turned up to the stand, all wanting to find out more about new products such as the SafeLine MX3 emergency telephone, the SafeLine EVAC evacuation system and the GSM simulator SafeLine GL6.

Mit der Industrietüren-Serie HD (Heavy

To remain competitive many companies today unfortunately accept quality compromises in materials and manufacturing technologies – even if the performance and sustainability of the products suffer as a result. However, in tough industrial use malfunctions in lift systems often mean production stops and high costs for operators.

Simple and economic wiring of floor control panel with LIN

The wiring of lift floor control panels differs greatly, depending on requirements and circumstances. The models for lifts range from two stops and only one button element per floor to complex group controls with information displays, acoustic signalling and access and priority control on every landing door. Finding the best standard for wiring here is a challenge. Consequently, different concepts can be found, above all classic parallel wiring and increasingly wiring using modern bus systems.

Innovation leap in lift technology

At the end of last year a new product was unveiled in the field of lift construction that can undoubtedly be described as a genuine quantum leap. This was a greatly performance-enhanced safety buffer made of Diepocell, which since its premiere at the interlift has caused a stir among specialists worldwide and aroused great interest.

Lift attendant 2.0

Mobile data recording for lift attendant services using APP3121
Every lift operator is obliged to appoint a “commissioned person”, what used to be called a “lift attendant”, for the entire operating duration of a lift. Lift operators have to do so on the basis of the Operating Safety Ordinance and the associated TRBS 3121 “Operation of lifts”. One of the tasks of the “lift attendant” among other things is regularly inspecting the lift.

Lift shaft smoke extraction – who is liable in the event of claims?

DIN VDE 0833-2 regulates the planning, erection, expansion, alteration and operation of fire alarms. Among other things, it specifies the suitability of fire alarms in relation to room heights and wall distances in order to guarantee safe, prompt alarm in the event of fire.

Refitting lift cabins for accessibility without reinforcement

Optimistic business prognosis in the lift industry: in October 2013, the VDMA lift index reached 147.2 points – the highest level in years. This reflects the extremely positive expectations of companies in the lift industry. Nevertheless, taking advantage of the market opportunities is very difficult for a large number of lift companies. After all, 60% of all new installations are carried out by the BIG 4 in the market and the industry is characterised by stiff price competition.
