Flat belts for efficiency

News

Otis recently sold the 500,000th unit of the Gen2 model. The ropes used in conventional lifts have been replaced by flat belts here. This creates more travel comfort, greater reliability, more economic operation and increased energy efficiency.

The 500,000th unit of the Gen2 lift was installed as part of a project of the MWG - Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG in Magdeburg and manufactured in Gien (France).

"We went for the Gen2 lifts, because Otis provides the best technology,” revealed Axel Herrmann, member of the board of directors of the Wohnungsgenossenschaft eG Magdeburg. Since the model was introduced in 2000, the model has become the best-selling lift in the 163-year corporate history of Otis. "Since its market launch, Otis has installed models of the Gen2 in over 180 countries in the whole world,” Philippe Delpech, president of Otis was pleased to note.

New lift generation "new Gen2"

Thanks to flexible belts, the Gen2 machine with the ReGen drive is smaller and in regular operation more efficient by up to 75% than conventional systems with non-regenerative drives. In addition, the Gen2 machine and the steel rope-reinforced PU belts do not need any additional lubricants. The patented flat belt technology of the Gen2 lift reduces vibrations and provides passengers with a pleasantly calm ride. In addition, Otis has optimised and simplified the installation process.

Otis launched the new Gen2 lift in 2016. This new lift generation is based on the reliable Gen2 technology while in addition facilitating networking with mobile devices and offering a special travel experience. Users can also summon the lift at a considerable distance by smartphone using the mobile eCall app, developed exclusively by Otis. The storey-call console OneCall provides passengers without the app with selection options outside the lift.

Integrated cabin display eView

Inside the lift helpful real time information is available during the trip from the integrated cabin display eView, which can be individually configured for each building. In this way building managers can provide information tailor-made for their passengers, such as information on buildings, activities, weather reports or traffic information.

NewGen2 is available in over 400,000 combinations in terms of labelling, colours, lighting and materials to adjust the lifts to architecture and design of a building.
