Ziehl-Abegg: Strong growth under its own steam

News

Ziehl-Abegg grew its sales by 12 percent in the first half of 2017. Positive developments in the field of ventilation technology contributed to this, as did drive technology.

"Customers are really embracing our energy-saving products in all markets," is how Peter Fenkl, chairman of the board of directors of Ziehl-Abegg SE, explained the current sales figures of the ventilator and motor manufacturer, based in Künzelsau (Germany).

Sales in the first half of the year grew by 12 percent to 268 million euros. Traditionally, the industrial company generates its growth under its own steam, i.e. without acquisitions.

This is a great challenge for the industrial company, which has a high degree of vertical integration, especially since new orders grew compared to the previous year by 15 percent. "We can’t wait for our new building for energy-saving EC motors and ventilators to open," revealed Fenkl. At the end of this year, the first machines are to move to the production plant in the Hohenlohe industrial estate a few kilometres away.

Directly on the European main transport axis A6, Ziehl-Abegg is expanding the ZA Kupferzell plant there. This will produce additional advantages in logistics and delivery time. Twenty-eight million euros are being invested for buildings and modern machines.

Despite optimisations in production, the extraordinarily good order volume means a much higher number of employees. However, in view of the extremely low unemployment rate in the region, the growth in staff numbers can only be realised very gradually. Nevertheless, the industrial company now employs over 3,700 people, most of them in the South German production plants.
