Doors with extremely low impost heights

News

Meiller Aufzugtüren GmbH presented a new product in its series of its modernisation solutions at the interlift 2017: the compact door series. This is distinguished by extremely low impost heights.

Meiller Aufzugtüren GmbH has been providing professional solutions for modernisation for many years. For example, many concepts have been developed, such as car doors with catches, which have been adjusted to the landing doors of third-party manufacturers or to its own earlier door generations.

Exposed to considerable daily loading

As a first step, the car doors are replaced; the old landing doors can remain in place for the time being and are actuated by the new car door. Consequently, operators do not immediately have to spend a lot of money to replace all of the landing and car doors, but can instead budget and plan at an early stage for "step-by-step" modernisation.

If landing doors have to be replaced later, no renewed modification measures have to be made to the car door: only the specially-modified door vane has to be replaced with a standard catch.

But landing doors are also exposed to considerable daily loading by improper use or vandalism, which often leads to disruptions or failures in lifts. The only remedy is the deployment of sturdy, resilient components. The Munich company emphasised that Meiller was well-known for its solid product quality in the field of doors. The use of high quality components ensured that Meiller doors would also work reliably under the most difficult conditions.

The compact door series

Meiller presented a new product in its series of modernisation solutions at the 2017 interlift: the compact door series. This is distinguished by extremely low impost heights – only 218 mm in the landing and 305 mm in the car doors. This is important, because especially when it comes to old lifts, there are many landing doors with impost heights of 250 mm and less.

Provided these doors are hung completely in the shaft, this is usually no problem. But if they are mounted in the wall niche, replacement with new doors with greater impost heights is not feasible or associated with expensive cutting work.

Sophisticated technology and high quality

HandwerkWhile many modernisation concepts promise space-saving solutions, but do not provide the desired performance, Meiller promises to provide doors with sophisticated technology and of high quality. The imposts of the compact doors correspond to the design of their standard doors. They are designed as closed, torsionally-rigid box structures and as a result guarantee not only great strength, but also protect the mechanism and electric components in the impost against falling dirt.

The galvanised running rail, made of a rolled steel profile and welded on the underside, also has a high moment of resistance against twisting and bending. The ball-bearing mounted rollers with a diameter of 65 mm from the standard door generation are used.

Simplifies keeping spare parts in stock

This is also where the great advantage of the compact series should be evident: all of the parts, tried-and-tested for many years, 'below' the impost are without exception standard components from the current third generation door, including both the door frame as well as the door leaves with their guide rails and thresholds, etc.

This simplifies keeping spare parts in stock for service companies, since many components which are already on hand for emergencies can also be used for the compact doors.

At the same time, compact doors are available both as an ‘EvoS’ version (shaft wall installation) as well as ‘EvoN’ (niche installation) and as a result provide flexible installation solutions for all kinds of applications.

Sturdy, torsionally-rigid door

The compact doors can be provided with all of the door leaf versions from the third standard door generation: the sturdy, torsionally-rigid door leaves made of sheet metal coated with zinc magnesium, which at Meiller are designed with double walls and welded all-round as standard, can in addition be clad with stainless steel or made completely of stainless steel. But glass door leaves with a frame or all-glass door leaves are also optionally available for the compact series.

Compact doors are currently available in a two-leaf telescopic design with door widths of 700 to 1400 mm and door heights of 2000 mm to 2300 mm and in a four-leaf, centrally-opening version with door widths of 1000 to 2400 mm and door heights likewise of 2000 to 2300 mm. A two-leaf, centrally-opening version is in the works.
