Thoughts on Asansör 2019 Istanbul Lift Exhibition

News

The 16th Asansör – which took place from March 21st to 24th - proved a success. 28.868 professionals from 96 countries have visited the fair.

289 exhibitors from 21 countries took their places at Tüyap Beylikdüzü, covering 50 thousand square meters exhibition area.

The location of Istanbul certainly helps, just outside the EU where East meets West and North meets South. The Tuyap exhibition site is some 40 km from the city centre which is certainly an advantage as the traffic congestion is a real problem in Istanbul.

In the actual exhibition we witnessed the signing of agency and supply agreements along with a great deal of interest in Turkish manufactured products. According to the post-event numbers, there have been a 15% increase in the number of international visitors with a total of 5,780.

Engineering and marketing on a new level

HandwerkDuring the official opening Sefa Targit, the AYSAD President, drew the attention of the audience to the flowers on an empty seat on the front row. This was a tribute to Ercument Hizal who died in 2018 and will be missed by many lift professionals and association officers.

Ali Avct, the President of SEDEFED, Roberto Zappa President of ELA, and Zekeriya Aytemur all gave a short address before the ribbon was cut and the exhibition declared open. A tour of the exhibition was made by the Deputy Minister for Industry and Technology, Hasan Buyukdede, who was impressed by the quality of the products on the stands.

As we walked the floor of the exhibition it was clear that the professionalism and improvement in stand design and, more importantly, the products being displayed. The engineering and marketing were on a new level and certainly compliant with EN codes and standards. Many of the Turkish lift manufacturers have invested in meeting the EU directives and certainly appeared to be moving forward to parity with the requirements of the global lift market.

New complete lift systems

This was typified by Arkel an electronics company that has developed a lift control system branded as Arcube and shows what can be achieved when funding is secured to speed the company’s development ambitions. The revealing of this product at the show created a buzz.

HandwerkAlso intriguing visitors was the fire testing of power cable on the AKIS stand where a traction machine was seen to be continuously running, even after 4 days of burning the power cable. Much lift safety equipment was in evidence and the Certification bodies, both European and Turkish, had stands and experts on hand to talk over any code or testing issues.

New complete lift systems could be seen on a number of stands and a large variety of cab designs and finishes were exciting visitors. Hydraulic lifts were strongly represented but Turkey is mainly a traction market so, as one would expect, many manufactures of geared and gearless machines could be found. Various types of home lifts and accessibility equipment were on show along with the large car lifts and car stacking systems.

Reinforced its position

The German pavilion was well placed by a connecting corridor which ensured visitors could see the stand. All seemed happy and enjoyed the opportunity to meet visitors from the Middle East and the Black Sea region, along with many from Turkey. There were other significant German companies with their own stands and other German lift products could be found on agents’ stands.

HandwerkThe Asansor 2019 Istanbul Exhibition occupied 5 halls of the Tuyap complex and has reinforced its position as one of the most important lift equipment showcases in the world. To be seen with the Turkish equipment was an amount of lift products from EU countries and China.

In the adjacent 2 halls, an exhibition of recycling equipment was on show which added an interesting bonus for the professional visitors. Electric road sweeping vehicles, waste separation plant, factory floor sweepers etc. were all being demonstrated. In the main Asansor hall a couple of stands had machine tools being demonstrated which did interest the lift manufacturers.

The next Asansor will be from 25th – 28th March 2021.
